Policing for Profit

The Anti-Marijuana Promoters have turned the nation's police agencies into for-profit businesses.   

"Today’s asset forfeiture laws allow law enforcement agencies to seize and keep citizens’ private property, including real estate, vehicles and currency, based upon an allegation of a connection to illegal conduct.   Although the laws dictating who will receive the proceeds vary from state to state, even in the most restrictive states, police departments can receive up to 80 percent of the proceeds they seize by working with the federal government in a process called equitable sharing."   

What happens to the portion of the assets that don't get turned over to the arresting agencies?  We don't yet have an answer to that question, but you can besertain that it goes to some bureaucratic, federal agency.  

To bottom line this --  It's Policing for Profit!

 

 

 

 

 

The Lies of Omission

 

 

One could argue that supporting police with "equity sharing" is a good thing, because police agencies need the money to fight crime.   We'll that's true, but by itself, it's a lie of omission.   The omitted portion of the message is, 

If marijuana were completely legal, that would eliminate the huge profits that keeping marijuana illegal presently provides.   By legalizing marijuana, over fifty percent of all crime would simply end with out any policing.   Imagine the present police system without criminals. 

And also, where would the  privatized prison industry be without criminals?     >
