. The three most recent presidents of the United States, Clinton, bush Jr.., and Obama, have all used marijuana. Clinton and Obama both publicly acknowledged using marijuana, while George Bush, Jr. has repeatedly refused to acknowledge its use in spite of evidence indicating that he has used it. .
. Here's a quote form President Jimmy Carter speaking to Congress in 1977: "Penalties against drug use should not be more damaging to the individual than the use of the drug itself. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against possession of marijuana in private for personal use." .

An 1840 quote form President Abraham Lincoln on Prohibition Prohibition goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes... A prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principle upon which our government was founded. .
. One of America's founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin smoked marijuanar. Here's one of his journal entries: "Tonight is a great night to sit in my chair watch the sunset and enjoy my cannabis pipe." .
. Evidence confirms that both Benjamin Franklin and George Washington grew marijuana. Did Washington smoke marijuana? There is no conclusive fool-proof evidence that he did, but let's get real for a moment. In his diary for August 7, 1765, Washington writes: "Began to separate the Male from the Female hemp … rather too late." Female marijuana plants are the ones that contain enough THC to be worth smoking.
