Outlawing Marijuana 

   Finances terrorism,  

   Corrupts government officials,  

   Raises its price dramatically,  

   Pushes its sale and use "underground" (into the black market)
            and makes criminals wealthy,  

   Turns production and distribution over to criminals,  

   Completely eliminates product quality and product safety,     

                       ***************************** 

   Destroys the lives of hundreds of thousand of young adults by
                 making criminals out of otherwise law-abiding people,

   Is responsible for over fifty percent of the world's criminal activity,

   Causes drug-related violence such as that presently going on in Mexico, 

  Is a major contributor the the gang violence going on right now
                 on your city streets,

                       ***************************** 

   Supports a multi-billion dollar police and prison industry,

   Pushes our political system toward  a fascist-style police state, 

   Reduces the tax base,  

   Wastes billions of dollars vitally needed tax money,

   Is a major contributor to environmental destruction,  

and 

Does absolutely nothing to stop its use!

When you combine the affects of  all these factors,

                     the bottom line is that

The evidence does not support this conclusion.   The real is a stepping stone to addictive behavior is nicotine.  

This argument is based on the logic called, "After, therefore because of."    Sequential patterns of human activities are natural and normal, however, to declare a sequence of events to have a cause and effect relationship without additional proof is fractured and faulty logic.  

If this faulty logic were actually correct logic, then we should also prohibit the use other things that commonly precede a person's addiction to cocaine, or to heroin, et cetera.   What abut the misuse of dozens of legal drugs?   Do they lead to cocaine or heroin use?  

What causes so many corporate executive to become addicted to Profits at Any Price  or to high stakes gambling?  Perhaps we should outlaw unbridled corporate power.

Argument "c"  Apparently the prohibitionists believe that there's something inherently evil about the recreational use of marijuana that not found in nicotine and alcohol, or in football. or in hokey or in the other violent activities that are considered to be recreational pastimes.  

There isn't anything inherently evil in marijuana use, but even if there were, the prohibitionists still have no right to police the private behavior of consenting adults.   We might ask them, "What's in you that makes you think your job is to control other people's lives?"

3)   If drugs become legal, more people will become drug addicts.  

The overwhelming evidence from places like Holland, prove this assertion to be completely false.  

4)   Legalizing Marijuana will turn the state into "the wild west."

Nobody that I know of has defined what is meant by "the wild west."   The implication is that legalization of marijuana will produce wild and abandoned criminal activity.   If that's the definition, then we have that already.   Legalizing marijuana would dramatically reduce the present "wild west."   (See the prohibition arguments below about crime reduction.)  

5)   Legalizing Marijuana will create more problems.  

This is a typical public belief of mindless people who listen only to the official propaganda and are completely ignorant of what the evidence tells us about this issue.   Instead of creating more problems, legalizing marijuana will solve a vast number of very serious problems that are the direct result of its prohibition.   See the list at the top of this page describing the problems resulting from its prohibition.  

For example, over fifty percent of the crime in the United states is a direct consequence of marijuana prohibition.   Legalization would result in a major reduction in crime. 

6)   Medical Marijuana dispensaries attract criminals.  

Is there something inherently evil about marijuana, or are marijuana-related crimes committed because of prohibition?  Where is cause?  Is it in the marijuana, itself, or is it in the prohibition?  If you don't already know the answer, we have only to examine alcohol prohibition to find it.  

During the alcohol prohibition era of the 1920's, thousands of criminal committed hundreds of thousands of crimes related to the sale alcohol and they did so only because the sale of alcohol was illegal.   Prior to prohibition, there was no alcohol-produced crime.   When prohibition ended, the alcohol related crimes also ended.  

Prohibition is the cause of crime, and ending prohibition is the cure!   Seventy percent of all crime is drug-related.  Seventy percent of all crime will end when prohibition ends.  

You might also note that many people died in the violence or by drinking alcohol that was actually poisonous.   Today, 2010, I can safely go into any major, California, grocery store and buy as much liquor I want.   I can buy it at a fair market price knowing that the product I'm buying is what the label says it is.  

7)   By decriminalizing marijuana, you are promoting its use.  

This so-called reason is peddled to the public because it sounds good to those who don't bother to examine the evidence.   Here's the same logic applied to sky diving, which is far more dangerous than using marijuana.   "Because it legal for  thrill-seekers to jump out of airplanes mean the we are promoting this dangerous behavior."

There is still another aspect of this controversy that is being completely ignored.   That ignored aspect is the unproven assumption that marijuana possession and/or its use is so bad that we must use government violence or threat of government violence to prevent people from possessing and/or using marijuana.

Is there is something inherently-evil about marijuana?   Is there is something inherently-evil about about possessing, or  smoking or ingesting marijuana?   There is no evidence to support such a claim and yet it's the primary publically-presented reason for criminalizing its possession and use.  

This claim is actually  the smokescreen used by The Powers That Be to hide the real reason for continuing marijuana prohibition.   This claim is used because the would-be-do-gooders buy this reason in the same way they mindlessly buy the anti-gay rhetoric and the forced motherhood  propaganda.
